Often in the morning since returning to work, I would find myself facing my closet in fear, with the daunting exercise of coming up with a look for the day. Sometimes when creativity would strike me at night, I would scrummage around in my closet and come up with a few ideas for the week. But more often than not, I did it in the morning. I’ll admit it here, I’ve been having a hard time creating outfits that I wanted to wear. Lots of my work clothes date back to 2014-2015, with a few new additions here and there. I went on maternity leave in October 2015 and returned the same month in 2016, so major updates to that part of my wardrobe was needed.
But I also felt like I had an overwhelming amount of clothes every time I walked into my closet. As I write this, I can just hear Terry agreeing! So I decided before I would shop, I would really, really clean out my closet so I had a really good idea of what I actually needed. Major purge ensued. If I was holding onto something and passed over it in the morning, it was out. Now, I don’t think I’ll ever be one to have the ’30 item wardrobes’ but I have definitely cleaned out and made my closet very streamlined. I have made sure that every single item that is taking up coveted space in my is loved and worn.
As I have been busy editing and adding new pieces to my work wardrobe, I find I have been focusing a lot more on items in neural colours (black, white, grey and beige). I love these colours as I can really maximize outfit combinations. Having a good collection of accessories helps to add colour.
Here are a few new items that I have recently purchased, all from Zara! I recently went during lunchtime (and cringe, during the winter sale). Was I mad?! Yes, but I was on a mission! If you shop at Zara during a busy time don’t try on your items. Buy and return. So happy they started doing that a few years ago.
New Items to my Work Wardrobe
I love this soft touch sweater for many reasons. First, it’s so soft and comfortable. Like cozy-at-home-on-the-couch-blanket-comfy. And how fantastic is it to have that coziness in something you wear. I loves the sleeves, the fit and the colour. I wore it with grey tuxedo pants and I’m going to wear it soon with a black lace pencil skirt.
When I first saw this black pearl cardigan, my immediate thought was “so Chanel”. And for a fraction of the cost. This is a very versatile piece and I know I’ll be getting lots of use out of it.
At last, a new biker jacket! I had to part with my last biker jack in October 2015 when I was prego. It was pleather and had completely ripped. I have since been on the lookout for a replacement. And my friends, I have found it in this beauty. Biker jackets can be worn all year long. They are easily adaptable to the office. I love pairing mine with professional pieces as it makes them slightly edgy. In the warmer months, it’s great as a coat for most occasions. The biker jacket is a staple piece and one that I wear loads of. So happy to have you in my wardrobe again!
Watch out for more articles like this as I continue updating my work wardrobe.
As a side note, if you are wondering where my usual Sunday dinner menu plan post is, I have canceled it this week out of emberasment for our lack of dinner ideas last week. But and a big but, this week we are set with a new menu plan that is healthy, colourful and delicious. We are trying new recipes from blogs and our cookbooks. We are getting out of our comfort zone!
