Some days even with the best of intentions don’t go as happily as planned but, with a little brain power and distraction you can easily have a better day.
Ten Ways To Have A Better Day
- Set your mantra for the day- Start the day off saying “Today is going to be a wonderful day”. And stick with it through out the day. Your better day is about to happen.
- Find the Silver-Lining- When something bad happens during the day, find the silver-lining, the benefit of that obstacle. Trust me, there is always one.
- Listen to Music– Music can have such a great impact on people’s lives. Music is my easy, sure enough way to always have a better day. If you’re at work, pull out your ear buds. Some of my favourites right now are City and Colour, Adele and I always love Amy Winehouse. If you need an awesome playlist, I suggest the one below. It’s super mellow and relaxing. In fact, I am listening to it right now!
- Work Out- Honestly exercise is a terrific mood booster and you won’t regret doing it. Does anybody ever say how much they regretted working out? If you’re short on motivation, set yourself a small goal, 15 minutes cardio and 15 minutes weights. Or maybe just 15 minutes of one of those. You may surprise yourself and stay longer. I personally love nothing more than running when I feel especially frustrated. It always guarantees a better day.
- Take a Break- Step away from the situation, even if it’s a short trip to the washroom. Get up and walk around. Take a quick coffee break, talk to the barista, wish them a good day. Just step out of your current situation. And if it’s really bad, call your go-to friend who can easily boost your mood so you can have a better day.
- Pay It Forward- Make somebody elses day awesome and treat them to a coffee, dinner, whatever it might be. You will make their day. That will most likely help you.
- Gratitude- Write out the five, ten or fifteen things that you are grateful for today, the last week, month or year. There are many great apps to do this so you don’t need to carry around a journal or worse, scraps of paper. I personally love the Gratitude Journal app. I also love the plain notes app that comes standard with the iPhone. I use it all the time for pretty much everything.
- Uplifting Videos- One of the many benefits of a smartphone, the awesome YouTube app. I personally love James Corden’s carpool karaoke series (I loved the one with Chris Martin of Coldplay), or a ted talk or the ever popular funny baby videos!
- Make Plans- It could be for dinner, travel, to see a friend, manicure or maybe you need to schedule a doctor appointment or better, a massage. Speaking of which, I am way due for one.
- Eat Ice Cream- I know, I know, but one treat is fine, it’s eating an entire pint of ice cream or an entire whatever your indulgence is that is bad. Get one treat and savour it. In Montreal, as we’re heading into the cooler months (and many ice cream places are in the process of closing down for the season), one of my favourite places that is opened all year long is Paysanne in the Eaton’s Centre. It’s worth every single calorie. Go indulge.
